Brookside Instrumental and Choral Program Information

Dear Brookside Families,

I hope everyone is transitioning well to the new school year! This week, I have met with all elementary students to discuss what musical opportunities are available to them at Brookside.  Please take a moment to read through the information and discuss with your child. If your child has expressed an interest in joining the beginner band, string orchestra or choral program at school, the below information should help you get registered! The program is open to all students in Grades 5 and 6.

The students have all seen this presentation.  Feel free to have a look at this to help with instrument choice. 

INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM

BAND: Instruction is offered in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion (drums and bells).

STRING ORCHESTRA: Instruction is offered in violin and cello.

Please note that students at Brookside Intermediate are required to obtain their own instrument for use in the Beginner Band program. The school does have 25 violins that students can rent for $60 per year for use in the Beginner String Orchestra.

Band and string instruments can be purchased or rented from one of the music stores in the area. 

Please do not purchase or rent an instrument for your child until I have sent home a note  stating which instrument your child has been chosen to play. 

ELEMENTARY CHOIR

Our Brookside Elementary Choir is open to any student grade 5 or 6 who is interested in making music with a large group. We rehearse once a cycle and perform extensively in our school, community and local music festivals. Our choir students express that they have so much fun! Choir is not mandatory at Brookside, but anyone is welcome to join! Note: If you were in choir last year and returning this year, please also register! 

It is important to consider that if your child signs up for band and/or strings they are expected to stay in the program at least until the end of the school year. Hopefully for many years! Our goal is to instill a lifelong love of music! It is the responsibility of the student to complete any work missed during their regular class on their own time.

Note* If your child is a returning grade 6 student, please register with the forms below too, as I am gathering contact information for all students and families.
